Stella, the elegant cocktail salon at Capella Bangkok along the Chao Phraya River, has a captivating new cocktail menu that takes guests on a sensory journey through the heart and soul of Old Siam. Crafted by the hotel’s brand-new Beverage Manager, Roberto Castro Rodriguez, “The Journey of Old Siam” is a masterful blend of history, culture, mixology, and a lot of fun.

Rodriguez, a newcomer to Bangkok, has fallen deeply in love with the city’s rich tapestry of stories and flavours. His passion for exploration is evident in every meticulously crafted cocktail, as he seeks to capture the essence of different Bangkok neighbourhoods.

The menu is a saa paper fan with brass sides and ribs – each panel features a different cocktail. The mood is mystery, adventure, elegance with a touch of intimacy. The mood is also flirtatious, not bold but refined seduction. “The Journey of Old Siam” is an immersive experience. Each drink is a narrative, told through its ingredients, presentation, and the inspiration behind its creation. From the historic Charoenkrung Road to the vibrant Chinatown, you can savour the city’s past while indulging in contemporary libations.

Signature cocktails like the 1861, a nod to Bangkok’s first paved road, and the Silver Screen, a tribute to the city’s golden age of cinema, showcase Rodriguez’s ability to blend history with modern mixology. Other highlights include the Long Lai, a celebration of Chinatown’s energy, and the Bitter Sweet, a poignant exploration of love and heartbreak in Bang Rak.

The 1861 cocktail combines Michter’s Rye with the delicate floral notes of jasmine and the herbaceous touch of shiso. The addition of Ratafia Rossi introduces a fruity complexity, while London Essence Tonic brings in effervescence. Silver Screen is a daring cocktail and plays with contrasting flavours, starting with the bold base of Altos Tequila and smoky Siete Misterios Mezcal, with bell pepper and cucumber vinegar introducing a tangy, vegetal twist. Spices add warmth, and the refreshing grapefruit and guava soda provide a fruity finish.

Long Lai transports you to the tropics with Grey Goose Vodka, pandan and coconut vinegar, and sandalwood for the finish. The Melting Pot blends various cultural influences. Martell VSOP brings deep cognac richness, while chrysanthemum adds floral notes. Campari and Pineau offer a bittersweet contrast, complemented by the unique flavour of Rinomato Aperitivo Deciso. Cascara and a milk wash smooth it out.

The K.O. delivers a punch of flavours, starting with Bambu Rum and chocolate, for its rich, indulgent base. Campari adds a bitter edge, while Umeshu and plum introduce fruity and slightly tart notes. Mancino Rosso Vermouth provides a smooth, herbal finish. Bitter Sweet masterfully balances sweet and bitter elements. Monkey Shoulder whisky offers a smooth, malty foundation, while fig leaves add an earthy depth. Ratafia Rossi and raspberries contribute sweet, fruity notes, and Palo Santo imparts a subtle, aromatic finish.

Robot B. is a futuristic cocktail with a refined, crisp profile, featuring Bombay Premier Cru gin paired with the herbal, slightly bitter Mancino Bianco Vermouth. Yuzu brings a bright, citrusy zest, while jasmine kombucha adds a touch of floral complexity. The London Essence Soda makes this drink light and refreshing. Finally, River Ripple layers smoky Nikka Whisky with salted mango, lotus, Rinomato Americano Bianco for bittersweet complexity, and coffee soda for an energising finish.

The glassware is stunning and reflects the historical and cultural landmarks of each neighbourhood. From concrete to ceramic, every detail has been carefully considered to create a truly unforgettable experience.

As the sun sets over the Chao Phraya River, Stella invites guests to embark on a spirited odyssey through time. With “The Journey of Old Siam,” Roberto Castro Rodriguez has redefined the cocktail experience, offering a taste of Bangkok’s past in every sip. For details and reservations click HERE.
