Compact yet Compelling: Introducing the ‘Small Is Mighty’ Volvo EX30

October 05, 2023

Inside the Volvo EX30

Amidst Volvo’s robust SUV line-up, the compact stature of the EX30 might be deceptive. This entrant, though diminutive, carries the hallmark of Volvo’s signature craftsmanship and a classically understated interior that’s quintessentially Volvo. Radiating a Scandinavian ethos, it offers an intriguing juxtaposition of chic accents and a minimalist approach.

For those who value practicality, the EX30 doesn’t disappoint. Innovative storage solutions like a central glovebox (accessible to both driver and passenger) and a concealed tray speak to its ergonomic design. As Gen Z is the target it has a full-width soundbar for music and podcasts, plus a 12.3-inch screen. There are no buttons – all information is on the screen and all drive controls are mounted on the stalk of the steering wheel. You might also appreciate the boot’s button access located sneakily under the rear wiper arm.

While the door bins offer depth, don’t expect to fit your larger hydration bottles with ease. However, the pop-out cup holders from the armrest do get a nod of approval. Moving to the rear, the space is a bit intimate. While tall passengers might find it a squeeze, Volvo ensures comfort with ample headroom and seats that embrace you with every mile, plus a smartphone pocket. Additionally, the interior is in sustainable and recycled materials, such as recycled denim and recycled plastics. A nod to reducing the environmental impact of this car. Though it’s not class-leading in terms of volume, its design is practical. And if you’re looking for an extra hideaway for those pesky charging cables, the front boot won’t disappoint.

The hallmark of Volvo’s signature craftsmanship

The vehicle offers two electric motor variants. First, there’s the Single Motor Extended Range version equipped with an NMC battery, boasting a range of up to 480 kilometres on a single charge (with a combined electric energy consumption of 15.7 kWh. Performance seekers, take note: the Twin Motor option is the quickest Volvo off the block and is capable of covering 460 kilometres and clocking 0-100 km in a mere 3.6 seconds. The Single Motor variant with the smaller battery might limit your adventures to 344kmbetween charges.
